Ethiopia Energy Policy and Regulatory Gap Analysis Report

The study systematically examines Ethiopia’s current energy law, policy, regulatory and institutional frameworks, analyse the energy mix composition and fossil fuel expansion proposals, and identify the policy, legislative, regulatory and institutional gaps that hinder renewable energy deployment. The analysis will deliver specific reform recommendations and practical advocacy strategies to advance renewable energy deployment in Ethiopia while addressing the environmental, health, and social justice impacts of current and proposed energy projects, particularly the massive hydroelectric development (Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam – GERD) and coal mining expansion threatening UNESCO Biosphere Reserves.
