Nigeria stands at a pivotal point in its energy transition. Despite holding some of Africa’s largest natural gas reserves and generating nearly 70% of its power from gas, over half of Nigerians remain without reliable electricity. The analysis presented in this study demonstrates that the current gas-centric approach imposes heavy fiscal, economic, and social costs, and that accelerating renewable energy deployment offers a faster, cheaper, and more inclusive route to universal electrification.
