LETA has filed a submission on South Africa’s transmission planning and procurement regulations, part of the country’s wider programme of electricity market reform and sector unbundling. The submission engages on the design of market rules and the procurement regime, arguing for frameworks that are transparent, competitive and aligned with a rapid, just transition to renewable energy.
South Africa’s reforms come against the backdrop of a financially distressed national utility and historic supply shortages, making the design of new market and transmission rules a decisive factor in the pace and fairness of the transition.
