A new gap analysis prepared for LETA has called for urgent revision of Kenya’s 2018 National Energy Policy, identifying it as a priority for enabling integrated, renewables-led electricity planning. The review of Kenya’s current policy and regulatory framework highlights the need to publish supporting framework and regulatory documents and to create clear mechanisms for county participation in planning.
The findings come as Kenya weighs long-term choices around geothermal, wind and solar alongside coal and nuclear, and reinforce LETA’s work supporting stronger governance and more equitable procurement in the country’s power sector.
